Development of BSN-MSN Program for Non-Nursing Baccalureate Graduates

Abstract
Recently, students who had bachelor¢¥s degrees in other than nursing have been increasing enrolling in the nursing program. However there are few studies investigating this special students¢¥ need. The purpose of this study was to investigate the BSN programs for the Non-Nursing Baccalureate Graduates and their need of the BSN-MSN program in Korea to analyze the BSN-MSN programs in U.S.A., and to provide approaches in order to establish the BSN-MSN Programs.

Data was collected between June 2002 and October 2002 by questionnaire, literature review, and internet sites. The questionnaire was utilized to investigate the BSN programs conducting in Korea and the need of the BSN-MSN programs. The sample consisted of 19 universities in Korea, and 4 universities in the U.S.A.

27 of 51 universities in Korea have adntltted the Non-Nursing Baccalureate Graduates in the BSN program of 3 years whereas 4 universities in U.S.A. have conducted the BSN-MSN programs.

The students were satisfied with employment opportunities and a variety of career paths, but reported the pressure of concurrent theoretical and clinical dasses and financial difficulty as problems master¢¥s program.

Based on this finding, the BSN-MSN Program is an efficient and effective strategy for the Non-Nursing Baccahireate Graduates who need shortened as well as accelerated programs.
